A Companion Print to
Anne of Green Gables
Anne of Green Gables’ imagining and wondering are framed in the miniature casement of this lithograph. You can feel the gently rising breeze and hear the lapping of the surf along the north shore in the warm brilliance of a late summer seaside ramble.
For a solitary moment in the sweep of endless sky, the hopes of youth stand barefoot in the warm sands reaching round the rim of time, and the thoughts of youth are whispered in the rolling of the surf, and the dreams of youth are cradled in the gently rising breeze

Summer’s End was featured in the
July-August 2001 issue of The Storybook Home. In an article entitled "Summer’s End: Portrait Of Hope," Al Young talks about some of the significant aspects of the image. For example:
… we need to be childlike in order to sense the presence of the light in our lives. I don’t like looking at shadows. And that’s not what she’s looking at either. The storm will come and the storm will go. And even the shadow will disappear whenever she faces the light.
