| The papers of Alfred R. Young, in the author’s collection, contain numerous rosters for the 28th Squadron, Kawasaki Camp 2B, and other squadrons in the 19th Bombardment Group. This appendix presents a selection of rosters bearing directly upon the narrative presented in My Father’s Captivity. Published memiors sometimes include Squadron or POW rosters, such as Herbert Zincke’s Mitsui Madhouse: Memoir of a U.S. Army Air Coprs POW in World War II and Ralph Knox’s The Emporor’s Angry Guest: A World War II Prisoner of the Japanese Speaks Out. The work of Roger Mansell, director of the Center For Research: Allied POWs Under the Japanese, Palo Alto, California brings together an enormous volume of information including prisoner rosters, camp histories, and other materials. The 19th Bombardment Association also maintains a roster of former members of the 19th Bombardment Group. Darrell Landau compiled the Association’s roster, as well as the history accompanying it, on CDs available from the Association. The American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor also maintains an important site containing information of this kind. The following rosters are presented as transcriptions of original source materials accumulated during research for My Father’s Captivity. While care has been taken to ensure a faithful transcription, no synthesis of the matieral is provided. For each roster presented here, a facsimile of the original is available as a PDF. Transcriptions are provided to facilitate text searches. Facsimiles are available to enable validation of the transcriptions. Braces in transcribed text indicate either illegibility in the original (and may contain a best guess concerning the characters or words appearing in the source) or explanatory material such as an editor’s note or the designation of a page break in the original document. Misspellings, blanks (as in data missing from a line under a particular column heading), and other features of the source have been preserved. A provenance is provided for each document. Where the source of a document is known, an acknowledgement appears in the provenance. In many cases, those with whom Alfred Young communicated in collecting these materials are deceased: nevertheless, we not only acknowledge their generosity, but express enduring appreciation. Documents listed on this page have been transcribed and will be uploaded to this site during the early spring of 2008. Transcriptions were completed by Al Young and Ashton Young.
