Aboard the USAT U.S. Grant, no. 2 (BenHaven archives reference no.: 4.14.1323) Miriam Pachacki wrote the following explanation in ink on the back of the print: Johnny [De Vine], Glenn Alder, Perry Franks, Evelyn Van der Lester, Jack Van der Lester U.S.A.T. Grant July 1939. The photograph was taken on the upper deck of the Grant, reserved for officers and their dependents. The people named appear in the photograph from left to right.
