When I began experimenting with lithography in 1996, I focused on tonal rendering instead of line drawing because tonal pencil drawings had occupied much of my attention as an artist up until that time.
The work of artists whose interests draw them toward line as a means of expression has always delighted me, but my own interests invariably drew me toward tone instead. Hiking in the mountains has been a favorite family pastime for many years. When the children were much younger, Mill Creek Canyon was a favorite haunt because instead of having to work hard just to get to the wooded shoulders of the hills, trails were relatively easy, safe for the children, and started in the woods surrounding the trailhead.

The key images for this edition (these editions) of original lithographs (was) were hand-drawn by the artist on a single Bavarian limestone. The beige colored flats were made on an aluminum plate by the printer. Processing, proofing, printing, and all curatorial work were done by hand by Wayne Kimball in Pleasant Grove, Utah.
