Growing Light by Elspeth Young featured in permanent exhibit
By Al R. Young
The Church History Museum
Growing Light by Elspeth Young is one of thirty original artworks featured in a permanent exhibit now open to the public at the Church History Museum in Salt Lake City. After being closed for a year-long renovation, the Museum reopened on September 30, 2015, featuring the exhibit entitled The Heavens are Opened. This flagship exhibit focuses on the manner in which God worked through Joseph Smith and others to establish The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Elspeth's painting not only tells a thoroughly documented story from the first days of the publication of the Book of Mormon (read more in The Story Behind the Painting), but enables youth who participate in the exhibit to more readily see the great part that young members of the Church played—and can yet play—in the long foretold restoration of the latter-days. The painting hangs in the exhibition area celebrating the Kirtland, Ohio era of Church history.
