Al Young Studios engages in a broad range of specializations surrounding the creation, presentation, and care of the fine art media in which the Artists of Al Young Studios are engaged. Custom framing is among the oldest of these services.

The commission to create two original oil paintings, as part of the Stein Eriksen Lodge Deer Valley conference center renovation, included the creation of custom frames for the artworks. Accordingly, we chose to frame them in our gilded and antiqued Corinthian style moulding with ornamented corners.
This custom style is stick-built and finished in the shop according to a design and fabrication process we invented in 2005 and have been using and refining ever since.
Creating a frame is its own art form, to which Ashton brings the taste and skill of a studio artist as well as his many years of experience in woodworking and framing. In this photo, he is at work in the woodworking shop that has evolved around the needs of the studio for more than twenty years. |
Threading the framing of the paintings for this project through the work-flow of the shop required careful planning and coordination. This kind of specialized framing involves a production and quality assurance process of its own, which had to be interleaved with the production process for the paneling created for the project.
Ashton is the artist and craftsman directly responsible for completing nearly all of the Studios' framing commissions. |
